What is Brihte Pals?
Brihte Pals is a global pen pal program designed to spark authentic connection between children learning outside the traditional system — homeschoolers, unschoolers, micro-schoolers, and heart-led learners from all walks of life.
We believe children are not just students — they’re storytellers, wisdom-sharers, and creators of a brighter future. Through handwritten letters, creativity prompts, and real conversation, Brihte Pals helps kids explore friendship, empathy, and self-expression beyond the screen.

HOW TO JOIN—
1. Click “Join Brihte Pals,” and Fill out the Match Questionaire—This form collects important details about your child, such as their name, age, interests, preferred communication type, and any special preferences for their pen pal. This helps us match them with a like-minded friend!
2. Once filled out, click submit, and from there you will be directed to proceed with payment for the one time fee of $25.00.
3. Receive Your Welcome Email—After completing the payment and match questionaire, you’ll receive a welcome email with more details about the program, what to expect next, and when your child will be matched with their pen pal!
I started Brihte Pals because I wanted my daughters to experience the world through the eyes of other children—
to learn, to share, and to form friendships that transcend borders. I wanted them to see that learning isn’t confined to textbooks or classrooms; it’s found in real conversations, in shared stories, in the exchange of ideas and dreams.
Children are teachers, too. They hold an innate wisdom that can inspire and uplift their peers. Through letter writing, they’ll not only practice self-expression but also develop a deeper appreciation for different cultures, perspectives, and ways of life.
Brihte Pals is an invitation to slow down, to connect intentionally, and to rediscover the joy of storytelling through pen and paper. It’s about building friendships, honoring individuality, and creating a world where kids see their voices, their ideas, and their experiences as valuable.

Age Range: Brihte Pals is designed for kids ages 6-14. We do our best to match children with pen pals of similar age, interests, and communication styles.
HOW IT WORKS?
Joining Brihte Pals is simple!
Here’s what to expect:
1. Join Brihte Pals, Pay the One-Time $25 Fee & Get Matched.
When you click “Join Brihte Pals,” you will be redirected to our payment page fill out a quick sign-up form, sharing your child’s age, interests, and communication style, and consent. From there, you will be directed to pay the one-time fee of $25.
We carefully match them with a like-minded pen pal of a similar age and interests.
2. Receive Your Pen Pal Details
Within two weeks, you’ll receive your child’s pen pal match, along with tips for getting started.
You’ll also get fun letter-writing prompts to spark creativity and connection!
3. Start Writing & Building a Friendship
Your child will write and send one letter per month (or more if both pen pals prefer!).
Letters can include writing, artwork, stories, or anything that expresses their personality.
4. Stay Connected & Have Fun
We encourage pen pals to exchange at least 3-4 letters to build a strong friendship.
Optional themed letter prompts and creative ideas will be shared monthly to keep the inspiration flowing!
If needed, we offer rematching to ensure the best experience for your child.

Q: How does my child get matched with a pen pal?
A: Once you sign up, we use the information you provid—such as age, interests, and communication style—to carefully match your child with a pen pal of a similar background.
Q: How often do children exchange letters?
A: We recommend sending one letter per month, but pen pals can write more frequently if they choose. We encourage at least 3-4 letters to build a meaningful connection.
Q: What should my child write about?
A: Anything! We provide monthly themed prompts to help inspire creativity, but kids are welcome to write about their hobbies, adventures, daily life, or share artwork and stories.
Q: What if my child’s pen pal stops writing?
A: We understand that sometimes life happens. If your child doesn’t receive a response after a reasonable time, let us know, and we’ll work on rematching them with a new pen pal.
Q: Can my child be matched with an international pen pal?
A: Yes! You can choose between domestic or international matches on the sign-up form. Please note that international mail may take longer to arrive.
Q: How are addresses handled?
A: We take privacy seriously. You can choose to send letters through a parent’s P.O. Box or a general mailing service if you’re not comfortable sharing your home address.
Q: Do I need to supervise my child’s participation?
A: We recommend that parents review letters before sending to ensure a safe and positive experience. However, we encourage children to take the lead in their writing and creativity!
Q: Is there a cost to join Brihte Pals?
