I spent years in healthcare watching how complicated we make the human body. Endless prescriptions. Labels full of chemicals. Systems that tell us health has to come from outside of us.
But I learned something else, too: the body is always speaking. It’s always reaching for what is simple, natural, and true.
Brihte Body was born from that knowing. From the desire to return to the basics; simple ingredients, provided by nature, that work with us instead of against us.
When I became a mother, that knowing deepened. I wanted to show my girls how to tend to their bodies with reverence. To teach them that nourishment doesn’t have to be complicated, it can come from tallow, herbs, oils, the quiet wisdom of the earth.
This isn’t just about lotion. It’s about remembering. It’s about peeling away the noise of the world and coming back to what we already know: our bodies are designed for simplicity.
Brihte Body is part of my larger mission through Brihte, to help families live in rhythm with themselves and the natural world. Education, creativity, relationships, and now body care; they all come back to the same truth: when we stop overcomplicating, we thrive.
My hope is that every jar is a reminder: keep it simple. Trust what’s natural. Nurture what carries you.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store your tallow in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat.
Because these balms are made with stable, traditional fats, they typically last 6–12 months when stored properly. If it’s exposed to high heat, it may soften or melt, simply let it cool and it will firm back up.

FAQs
Q: Does it smell like beef?
Most people are surprised by how gentle the scent is. Our scented blends are lightly fragranced with essential oils, and offer a low, clean fat smell that fades quickly after application.
Q: Can I use this on my face?
Yes. Many people love tallow as a night cream or post-sun balm. Start with a tiny amount and see how your skin responds.
Q: Is it safe for babies and kids?
Our Lulla tallow is the best option for babies and very young children. As always, do a small patch test and avoid using essential oils on newborns.
Q: Is it greasy?
Tallow feels rich at first but absorbs well when used sparingly. We blend in a small amount of arrowroot powder, offering a velvety smooth finish. Warm it fully between your hands and press it into the skin rather than rubbing a thick layer on top. A little goes a long way.
Q: How much do I actually need to use?
Less than you think. Start with a pea-sized amount and add more only if your skin still feels dry. Tallow goes a long way, especially when applied to slightly damp skin.
Q: Is your tallow ethically sourced?
We source our tallow from grass-fed, pasture-raised animals whenever possible, working with farms and butchers who value humane, respectful practices. Using tallow is also a way of honoring the whole animal and minimizing waste, which feels important to us.
Q: What if my tallow melts or gets grainy?
Because tallow is a natural fat, it can soften, melt, or form small “beads” if it experiences temperature changes. This doesn’t mean it’s bad—it’s just cosmetic. You can still use it as-is, or gently re-melt the jar in a warm water bath, then let it cool at room temperature.
Q: Does tallow replace my lotion?
For many families, yes. One jar of tallow can take the place of conventional body lotion, hand cream, and even night cream. Some people still like a lighter lotion during the day and use tallow as their “repair” balm at night. There’s no wrong way—follow what feels best for your skin.
Q: Can I use this on small scrapes or minor irritation?
Tallow has traditionally been used on dry, chapped, and irritated skin. Many people choose it for areas that need extra comfort and support. For anything open, infected, or serious, please follow your doctor’s advice first and use common sense.
Q: Is tallow okay for acne-prone or oily skin?
Tallow is naturally similar to our skin’s own oils, which is why many people with acne-prone or combination skin do well with it—especially when they use a tiny amount on damp skin. That said, everyone’s skin is different. Start small, patch test on one area, and see how your skin responds over a week or two.
Q: Can I use this if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
Many moms love using it on growing bellies and dry hands. If you’re unsure about essential oils or specific ingredients while pregnant or nursing, check with your care provider and choose the most basic blend.
Q: Can I use tallow on lips, cuticles, or feet?
Yes—tallow is a great multi-tasker. You can dab it on lips, massage it into cuticles, or use a thicker layer on heels and feet before bed. One jar can replace several different products.
Q: Does tallow clog pores?
Tallow is often described as “biologically compatible” with our skin because its fatty acid profile is similar to our own sebum. For many people, this means it absorbs well without feeling heavy or pore-clogging when used sparingly. If you’re worried, try it on a small part of your face or only at night and see how your skin reacts.
