SeasonSchool is a multi-age, nature-based learning circle for kids and their mothers. We gather outdoors in all seasons to explore the rhythms of the earth, create with our hands, and remember that real life is the lesson plan. Each session we move, make, and wonder together — no desks, no worksheets, just living, breathing learning.

WHAT IS SEASONSCHOOL?

SeasonSchool is a seasonal, nature-rooted learning experience for children and families. We meet in small, mixed-age groups outdoors to:

  • explore the changing seasons

  • learn practical skills (herbalism, food, fires, shelter, crafts)

  • build courage, creativity, and community

  • remember that childhood is not a race — it’s a rhythm

Each SeasonSchool session is 2 hours and includes:

  • a seasonal nature invitation (walk, sit-spot, sensory exploration)

  • a hands-on project (herbal medicine, simple food, crafts, or building)

  • story + conversation time (values, emotions, faith, and wonder)

  • closing circle to reflect, share gratitude, and ground back into the day

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Childhood in Rhythm with the Earth

Brihte’s SeasonSchool is built on a simple belief:
When children grow close to nature, they grow closer to themselves.

We believe:

  • Children are naturally wise.
They don’t need to be filled, they need to be witnessed, guided, and trusted.

  • Mothers + caregivers are the first teachers.
SeasonSchool doesn’t replace you; it strengthens you. We invite you into the circle, too.

  • Learning is not separate from life.
Herbal tea making, tending a fire, chopping vegetables, watching the sky, these are lessons in science, math, language, leadership, and faith.

  • Rhythm over rigor.
We follow the pace of the season, the group, and the child. Curiosity, not comparison, leads the way.

  • Spirit, body, and mind belong together.
We honor emotions, energy, questions about God, and the quiet inner voice, just as much as we honor skills and knowledge.

SeasonSchool is not school as usual. It’s a gathering place to remember how humans have always learned: together, in community, in rhythm with the land.

WHAT MAKES SEASONSCHOOL UNIQUE

Seasonal, not standard.
Each month has a guiding theme rooted in the season (winter fire, rest, roots, immune rituals, storytelling, etc.), so kids feel the wisdom of nature in real time.

  1. Hands-on, heart-first.
We don’t just talk about things — we make, build, taste, create, tend, and move. Learning is in the body, not just the brain.

  2. Faith-friendly & expansive.
We honor God, wonder, and the unseen — without heavy doctrine. Children are invited into awe, gratitude, and conversation around a loving, present God.

  3. Mother-centered lens.
Brihte exists to nourish the mother so she can nourish the child. SeasonSchool is designed with mom’s nervous system, bandwidth, and real life in mind.

  4. More than a class, it’s a rhythm.
Families receive simple at-home practices, rituals, and prompts tied to each gathering so learning doesn’t end when you get in the car.

  5. Integrated entrepreneurship & stewardship.
Children learn that their ideas, hands, and hearts can serve — through small acts of contribution, making, and helping.

MULTI-AGE LEARNING

In SeasonSchool, ages mix on purpose. We don’t separate kids by grade, we let them learn the way families and villages always have.

Here’s why:

  • Younger children learn by watching and copying.
They grow brave when they see older kids try something first.

  • Older children grow through leadership.
Helping a 5-year-old gather sticks or pour drinks builds real confidence and empathy.

  • Siblings stay together.
No shuffling kids from room to room, your family learns side by side.

  • Real life is multi-age.
Outside of school buildings, people of all ages cook, work, build, and create together. SeasonSchool mirrors that.

How it works in practice:

  • Projects are tiered so little hands can participate while older kids can go deeper.

  • Tasks are offered with “choose your level” options (ex: simple stirring vs. measuring, chopping, or recording observations).

  • Reflection questions are adapted for different ages, but everyone gathers in the same circle.
